My mate bought a restored Austin-Healey Sprite Mk IV in Hungary and we will fly down to Budapest on Friday morning to get the car and drive it back home.

Should be some good fun driving from Hungary through Austria (visiting an old friend of ours) then Germany and Luxemburg

So far the weather seems to be good and there shouldn't be a problem to find enjoyable roads

Before he bought the car we went down to check it over from A to Z, that was 3 month ago with to body work just finished.

Now the car has done 1500 km and all the small problem seem to be sorted except for an oil leak fom the gearbox (design fault).

That looks absolutely beautiful and I bet it wasn't an expensive mess.

Looks like you'll get home on an slug made in Abingdon, then sorted in Budapest dancing to the Csardas.

Don't forget to bring back some good bottles of Tokaj, I'll buy a few off you if you can get them in that (minute) boot.

I seriously need LSD therapy.

Stuck in a server somewhere
Looks clean as a whistle.

Shame about the colour if you ask me...  but I guess it must appeal to some folk!

If at first you don't succeed, you're probably not a toothless budgie.

Next person to ask "Is it an mg midget?" dies on the spot.

The car is really very well restored with attention to detail and also very original.

@ GT, what is Tokay, never heard of ...

@ Jony, the color is original and it looks quite good with the black wheels and hood, and my mate really likes yellow

"Square wheel arch" midget/AH with chrome bumpers, 1275 steel motor & LCB.
One of the best, only slightly less desirable than the "round wheely" one...

Tokay is TOKAJ.

Tidy little motor.

I hope you didn't damage your fingers, turning the steering wheel and scraping them against the door...

Anywhere and nowhere baby.
Does look tidy, so its a  k-Series engine conversion next? You can even BUY a kit for that

Well for the Midget anyway!

What has the State done for me? Since 1997 it has disenfranchised me. My aspirations have been ignored, my choice of lifestyle and my opinions dismissed as 'neanderthal'. I have been redesignated from a citizen to a taxpaying unit. A cash cow to be milked for resources to buy the votes of New Labour's client supporters. I have been hectored by joyless, anthropophobic social engineers about changing my lifestyle to suit their agenda. I have been spied upon by speed cameras and CCTV. My business was crippled by a torrent of stifling, stupid and unnecessary legislation. My pension was stolen by the Chancellor. My civil liberties have been curtailed and I have been systematically lied to by amoral, self-serving politicians. Nothing.

Cuts in Safety Camera Partnerships? while its bad people loose HONEST jobs I say F*** 'em, find a real job. This is what happens to parasites when the host body(state) starts to die.

The problem we all face - is that over the past 15 years or so most people have been trained in dependency - on the government and for it nannying us through just about every move of our lives; and the consumerist high-priesthood who has helped us make edited choices in an increasingly bewildering world. Most people are just puppets to these bodies.
Those who aren't are the entrepreneurs and rebels who drive their own lives, the former find ways to make money from the 'learned dependents'.

The engine goes really well and seems to be well build so no K-series engine.

Update :

we had the problem that the gearbox lost its oil really fast through the oldfashioned scroll seal at the front of the box ... and the straight cut first gear was VERY noisy.

So we decided to take the box out during winter and fix the issues ... new first gear and modified front plate with seal.

Everything back in the car ..... but the day after we have about half of the gearbox oil on the floor

We only checked the machining and seal .... but our quality control did not comprise the casting itself .....

Got everything together last night and the car is drivable again.
